How To Make Your Website Usable?

Usability is one of the key terms that are widely used in web design. In many respects it is the most important and vital aspect of any web design.

Why Usability is so important?

Its a very normal tendency that if an online web surfer visit your website but find it difficult to use then he or she may leave and never become customers. In fact its very important to understand that web design must give its visitors freedom and choice to surf it properly. A good web design is not just about a website looking cool and flamboyant. It has more got to do with its role i.e. the website must be able communicate its goal with as little effort as possible on the part of the user. Moreover if the site has wellbuilt usability more online surfers will notice because they won’t be wasting time trying to figure out how the site works.

Looking on the other side a bad or poor design may cause visitors to do any of the following things again and again like

Clicking on back button and keep waiting for a long download.

Wasting time in making a guess as to where and what the navigation is all about.

As a result to make your website more visible you must involve potential customers in its design.

Factors or Steps to Increase your Website Usability

Nowadays every big and small business owners or web development firms and web designers are focusing on different ways to make their site more usable. Usability has turned out to be the important factor in web designing because as long as it remains missing the site can confuse the online web surfer. Besides this it may further detract from whatever the main message product or service you want to convey through website.

Here are few important points that can help you go a long way to provide or develop a more userfriendly site:

Alignment and Spacing Alignment and spacing in web site design are important factors. It helps in creating a proper order organizing the page and groups parts of the website for easy navigation. A proper alignment and spacing of text and image keep visitor stick to your website and read content. You can easily use the guidelines in Photoshop to ensure that all your elements are aligned which can be done by dragging rulers from your rulers tab.

Including a Tagline In terms of web designing a tagline is a statement that represents a companys philosophy and mission. It is the most obvious element on a websites front page and must clearly depict the website purpose in one phrase. As per recent statistics it has been found that a website has just few seconds to confine an online visitors attention. A website without any clear tagline might find it hard to keep its visitors attention long enough to further browse the inner pages.

Title Every Webpage Giving title to every web page can be very beneficial. This small procedure actually ensures your visitors don’t get lost on your website. In simple words if you title every web page you directly help your visitor know what page they are currently viewing.

Avoid Using Extensive Graphics Its very important to understand that too much use of design elements and graphics are always bad for a website. They actually mislead visitors attention. Thus make sure you only design to improve the web page not just to decorate it. From a web usability and navigation point of view simple and less is always more powerful.

Graphical Navigation Try to include a text version of graphical navigation items. When graphics are links try to make it easier by including meaningful alt text for graphical links. If you use an icon next to a text link make sure both items are clickable. Be very cautious about using image maps as navigation because visitors often lose track of where they are and where they have been.

Avoid Designing Graphic Elements like a Button Most of the time visitor see text that is underlined and looks like links but are not clickable. By not having any action that the online web surfer expects actually hampers their interest in website. As a result they would think that the site is broken and eventually leave.

Choose Background Image Color and Text Color very carefully You must require taking this point into serious consideration very seriously. You must understand that if your color scheme ofweb design is unappetizing visitors may leave even if your subject matter content is very good. For optimum usability make sure you always check the color balance sharpness and contrast of each image. Besides this also make certain that web page text color balances with the rest of the page and other images.

Stick to Standards of Hyperlinks Try to make the visited link a duller less saturated color than unvisited so that the links the visitor hasn’t visited or clicked yet stand out more. Make it easy for your visitors and it won’t mess up your web design.

Always Include a Sitemap Including a site map webpage and registering a sitemap XML document in search engines can further increase your web design usability. Though the concept of site maps are a relatively new website feature but it widely improves web page navigation. It is a structural representation of a websites pages and architecture. It can be a document in any form or a web page that lists the pages on a web site typically organized in hierarchical fashion.

Do Not Overuse JavaScript With the advent of JavaScript and the AJAX technique web designers and developers can develop responsive and more transparent websites. However the major drawback of this tool is browser inconsistency. Every online user visiting your website might not have an uptodate web browser. They also might not have JavaScript enabled by default. So by using JavaScript on a website extensively we block out these users.

Today website usability is all about reducing and reorganizing the complexity into small and manageable web navigation process where web designing plays an important part. Ensuring readability and taking care of the above checking points will actually help you move in the right direction of designing userfriendly websites. The bottomline is Making your website more usable is the simply best credit that you can achieve from your visitors.

The Pace Of Business Today Is Positively Supersonic

There doesnt seem to be enough time for anything anymore and businesses of all sizes are working harder and faster all the time.

Its important to work smarter too. And that means when you have to choose an important vendor for an essential service you need to slow down and make a deliberate careful decision. This is particularly important when you are getting ready to put your companys face on the World Wide Web in a new or newlyrefurbished web site.

Before listing the ten key things to look for in a good web designer lets define a few terms. Even though you may encounter variants on the name like web developer web artist webmaster and so forth were talking about an individual who alone or with some assistance is going to get you up and running. This means more than simple design.

You may need someone who can help you conceive and write copy. You may need someone who can plan smart site structure. You may need help getting a domain registered files uploaded email accounts set up and other technical details. You will definitely need someone who can do just about anything or quickly find out how or have an associate who can at the ready.

With these caveats and serious encouragement to shop around for price and professionalism here are the ten things to look for in rough order of importance:

1 Experience
You will need someone with all the techniques tools and tricks that will help you prepare your web site and accomplish your online goals. You should confirm that the candidate knows the entire alphabet soup of protocols web markup languages and coding utilities: HTML XML CSS PHP and so on. Ask all prospects for a portfolio ask if they can hand code find out how many years of experience each has etc.

When you interview designers on the phone and/or in person you will get these answers swiftly enough. But take due time to get more important insights as to the individuals character level of expertise and how well your personalities mesh. You will be working closely together after all.

2 Customer service orientation
as important as experience is a mindset and attitude of making customer service a priority. If a designer/developer is too busy to answer emails or phone calls will they be able to keep the production schedule? Ask for references and make a point of actually calling them. Ask the prospects previous clients if the web developer was responsive on time and effective.

3 Original copy and graphics
Creating professional and 100 original web graphics separates the adults from the kids every time. Most anyone can do some quick and dirty copy writing and slap it on a page with some pictures and hyperlinks. On the other hand a talented and veteran designer will demonstrate knowledge of page layout have a way with color and know how to place elements on a page for best appearance and web site performance. Take a good look at a number of the sites each prospect has built and make sure no one is using templates or starter pages that come with some software programs or are available even free on the Internet.

4 Creativity
you need to decide right away before you even start talking to designers just how much the designer you find will be involved in the conceptual process. Your designer may need to help you with some of the big picture questions such as marketing web copy writing for search engines and how to generate traffic. You want someone creative but not a diva who wont follow instructions or work with your ideas to bring them to fruition.

5 Marketing experience
the easiest way to find out if your prospective web designers are good at marketing web sites is to view their site and their portfolio. That you are considering selecting them to design you site is a good first indicator that their designs convert. You’ll further want to insure that you can find what you’re looking for on their site quickly and easily and that you can do the same on some of the sites in their portfolio.

6 Cost
pricing for a professional web site of 1015 pages with the standard features runs all the way from 500 to 5000. It may be that your idea is so complicated that you might have to pay for an estimate. For a full picture of all the costs involved in the project ask for all the costs to be broken out individually domain name and hosting graphic design work marketing fees and web development matters.

You may need to place a deposit if the job is large enough and you should have all payment terms worked out before work starts. You can work out an hourly rate a flat fee or some combination of the two. Leave nothing unstated or assumed: Get every detail in writing including deadlines and how many revisions are included.

7 Job timeline
after you ask the developers how long the process will take make a point of asking references if the project was in fact completed on time. A basic web site may take as little as a week while more involved and technically challenging sites could take a month or more. You need to know what the realworld turnaround time is for the specific people you are considering.

8 Communication skills
dont hire anyone who insists on speaking to you in computerese or wont explain unknown terminology. You have to communicate with this person about things that are important to your very survival so you need to be clear at all times. If you cannot establish a good working relationship it wont matter if you have Leonardo Ad Vinci working on your code it just wont work out.

9 Full service
There may be one or two things that your designer/developer cannot do but for the most part you should be able to find a reasonablypriced professional who can handle just about everything. If the designer needs help installing a particularly complicated shopping cart or your site requires some heavy database programming it is reasonable to expect that your designer might need some assistance. All of this should be spelled out in the pricing of course see 6 above and you should never be surprised by anything your designer is telling you. If you are you overlooked something in this list!

10 Availability
Are these prospects fulltime web professionals? Or are they moonlighting from some other job even a completely unrelated one? It may be that a parttime web designer whos working at McDonalds really can do a great job for you but will he/she be available to meet with you during normal business hours? No matter what decision you make fulltime pro parttimer or student you must be able to get hold of your designer.

Finally do you homework before speaking with anyone. You dont need to be an expert after all youre hiring help because youre not but you need to know enough to know what youre hearing. If you are uncertain of your own ability to keep on top of whats going on get a friend with at least basic web knowledge to help you locate interview and assess candidates.

Use all of this head knowledge to narrow down your list of candidates but dont be afraid to use your intuition heart knowledge to get a feel for each persons honesty integrity and character. Using this mix of study inquiry discussion and feel you will start to develop judgments about the candidates. Following this procedure thoroughly should result in your finding a good match for your Internet needs.

Here is some important clickbank affiliate marketing basic skill.

There will be a brief description followed by some facts of how to find profitable or easy to sell products from the clickbank marketplace.

Sales this is how much your commission amount will be for every affiliate sale.
Sales this is the percentage of the product sales price /Sale represents Sale is more important.
Refd This is the percentage of sales of the product come from affiliate sales.
Grav this is the “gravity” of the product or a measure of how many affiliate are promoting it.

The main criterion in choosing a right clickbank affiliate marketing products is the conversion rate. Conversion rate means how many visitor out of 100 buy the product. For example if 2 out of every 200 visitors to a sales page buy the product being sold there then you have a 2 conversion rate.

But how do you find out what the conversion rate is? Let’s look at a products from Clickbank marketplace:

1 Look at the product “Gravity”. Every clickbank affiliate marketing product listing in the market place is marked by a “gravity” number which is displayed at the far right under the product title. This number represents how well the clickbank product is converting for affiliate as it is a measure of how many sales have been referred by other clickbank affiliates. The higher the gravity number the better the product is converting.

2 look to the left of the gravity number at the “referred. In this case you can see that 84 of sales for this clickbank affiliate marketing product have been referred by affiliates. Its means that major of sales for this product is referred by affiliate but not the owner themselves this is good sign.

3 Look for additional factors that favor sales. how good is the merchants sales copy? this is important for clickbank affiliate marketing the product as the Sales pages are meant to SELL. You need to make sure it will attract your attention from a buyer prospective.

Pick a good clickbank affiliate marketing product from the marketplace which is highly likely to sell well for you assuming its a great fit for your target market niche:

a. Make sure /Sale is greater than 20 It’s tough to make a profit with any paid techniques such as using Google Adwords for a product of clickbank affiliate marketing if the number is lower than that.

b. Shoot for gravity roughly between 50 to 100. this is one of the important clickbank affiliate marketing tips anything lower than 50 or so probably isn’t popular enough to sell well and anything that higher than 100 is probably so popular that the market is already saturated.

Utility Of Support In Web Hosting Business

Introduction:

The importance of support can be explained in form of a small example as depicted here imagine one is in a business of running a smallmedium sized online store that concentrates on affordably prized gift items and now lets say it’s Christmas time. Now it is sure that everybody is busy in shopping and the use him/her self will be waiting for this day to come as it is the time of the year when his/her business really blooms and with which he/she will get revenue to plan next event or business.

Now imaging a biggest trouble came say his/her site goes down due to some sort of problems associated with server on 23rd of December or on Christmas Eve. To make the things worst user is not able to get hosting company as well. Now what will happen? How he/she would react when he/she wont get such support at this moment of time? Now this explains why prompt support required is.

The above example is just a small example and believe it or not things can even go worst that this. It is a true fact that the quality of support builds the foundation of hosting company. It is the foundation on which the whole building of hosting firm rests. The features like speedy and accurate customer service are rare to be seen but they are the things which make one company successful. Along with these features one should take care for performance Space Traffic allowed Features Cost and most importantly Customer support.

In order to check the credibility of a hosting company customer support is considered as a main factor. If a company wants to prove its credibility it has to take care of its technical support at any cost. For a user its really important to know if technical support is dependable or not as if anything goes wrong with his/her site then he/she has to contact the company and cure is only possible if it is directly provided by the hosting company itself.

There are several or rather say almost all companies to claim to offer services like techs working round the clock in their organizations managing their stateofthe art systems etc. But in reality we know that it is mere a fake trap. Due to excess demand of information technology professionals now days many webhosting companies are unable to find employees who are well trained in OS concepts network technology and control panel specifications

In this article we are giving the brief outlines of the hosting support considerations for the beginners as well as any host who have got high regards for the quality standards of their company.

Right support:

Its really quite difficult to find perfect support for ones company. For every web host who gives serious thought to hosting support would be having certain expectation levels regarding the quality of support. It is only if ones support is marvelous that one can feel relaxed as his/her customers are also going to feel relaxed due to this.

In this context the most important thing to consider is how to provide round the clock support and that too whole year. It is quite often seen that every web host just promises to provide support 24 / 7 and even promises to offer money back guarantee in case he/she is not able to provide that. But in reality such things are rare. So one should take care to have best support team to offer support round the clock through out the year. One should ensure proper administration and supervision to check the quality as well as the working style of support people.

Cost:

Next parameter to consider is cost. One should consider this point as well for maintaining cost it is better to have own team of technical experts or outsourcing to an outsourced hosting support company. One should select support wisely with efficient computations of his/her expenses and profit margin. It is advisable to do calculations in such a way that the quality of support can be kept and simultaneously good profit can also be earned even in the long run. One should keep in mind that due to intense competition in the beginning profits are not much but keeping quality will benefit in the long run as all will be out from the market offering poor services.

In order to control cost it is not only possible to control it via controlling technical factors but also non technical aspects like sales / billing support and timely administration of servers etc. In order to save cost one can manage the sales / billing issues by his/her own or he/she can avail the services of a fresher. For the server administration one requires the service of a good system administrator to perform the timely software upgrades and the other fine tuning aspects of the server in order to make it run smooth. Its always considered an additional utility to maintain a team of technical experts who are able to perform technical support as well as server administration instead of employing separate teams for the same. Thus the above things can easily reduce cost and no doubt without compromising quality.

What to choose? InHouse or Outsourced

Now next important thing to consider is whether it is required to have an inhouse team of technicians or one can outsource support to a support company? There are several people with different opinions on this matter; therefore we are taking both the pros and cons to conclude which one is better.

Pros:

InHouse

1 It is possible to have direct interaction with the support staff in person.
2 It is possible to recruit directly the support staff by own.
3 Also local market knowledge and expertise can be known well when it comes to sales and marketing
4 In case of emergency ready availabilityuponcall of in house team.

Outsourced

1 It is cost effective as compared to above.
2 One can concentrate better on his/her own business marketing as anyone else is taking care of technical aspect.
3 Biggest advantage is availability of expertise in specific fields.
4 No problems with the planning of shifts or personnel to manage the 24 / 7 support as it is now headache of the outsource company.
5 No training cost.

Cons:

InHouse

1 Its quite expensive as compared to Outsourced.
2 Burden of personnel management in maintaining an inhouse team for support
3 Requirement of dynamism as remedies is to be taken immediately.

Outsourced

1 It is not possible to have direct interaction in person with the support staff.
2 Its important to have accustomed with own support people as they might keep on changing according to the outsource company’s internal policies.
3 Needs perfection of language spoken or written

Conclusion:

To conclude it is always better to select a good outsourced support firm that maintains it’s promises and does not comprise on quality instead of employing own separate staff to handle the technical support sales / billing and server administration.

How To Choose The Right Domain Name For A Successful Web Site

Choosing a domain name may seem like an exercise in frustration and you may be tempted to register the first one you stumble upon that isn’t already taken. Slow down! It requires more thought than that and your choice will have a tremendous impact on the ultimate success of you Web site. In this article we will discuss how to discover a domain name that will work for you.

There are four main concerns when choosing a domain name:

1. Technical Requirements.

2. A Memorable Name.

3. A Descriptive Name.

4. Keyword Research.

Technical Requirements for Domain Names

Let’s get the easy part out of the way first.

When we talk about a “domain name” we’re referring to the part of a Web site address that comes between “www” and “.com.” For instance in “wwwYourWebSitecom” the domain name is “YourWebSite.” You must register the domain within a particular “toplevel domain” the part that comes after the rightmost “dot” as in “.com” “.info” “.us” etc. That is “YourWebSitecom” is a different domain than “YourWebSiteinfo.” You might be able to register “YourWebSitebiz” even though “YourWebSitecom” is already registered.

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers “ICANN” defines what a domain name must look like. These rules may be summarized as follows:

* 63 or fewer characters.

* Only numerals hyphens and English letters.

* Must not begin with a hyphen.

* Must not end with a hyphen.

Unfortunately it’s not quite that cut and dried. There are varying interpretations of the rules. Some say that a domain in a fourcharacter toplevel domain .info .mobi can only be 62 characters long. There are several schemes regarding how to encode nonEnglish letters etc.

We can avoid getting bogged down in these points of confusion by remembering two things:

1. You don’t want a long domain name anyway so don’t worry about whether the limit is 64 or 62 characters.

2. NonEnglish letters encoded in schemes that might not be universally applied mean that your domain name may look different and nonsensical on various parts of the Internet so don’t use them.

Choosing a Memorable Domain Name

Your domain name must be something that people can remember and that they can type in readily or recognize at a glance when they see it as a clickable link.

Among other things this means that your domain name should be short. All of the genuinely short domain names are already taken. Virtually every single word in the English language has been registered as a domain name as has every combination of up to five letters. So don’t get too hung up on “short.” As we will discuss later in this article you want to find a balance between “short” and “descriptive.

Although a domain name may include hyphens you are better off without them. If you wanted to register “YourDomainNamecom” and found it was unavailable you will not be doing yourself any favors by registering “YourDomainNamecom.” Users will confuse the two Web sites and will be more likely to go with the shorter version.

Choosing a Descriptive Domain Name

Your domain name should describe what the user will find on your Web site.

Look for a descriptive phrase about your chosen specialty. Is your Web site about baby care tips for working mothers? For parents of babies with special needs? Whatever specific area you intend to address put together three or four words that say it. You don’t have to say it very well at this point. As we will discuss shortly there are tools to help you refine your descriptive phrases. For now just come up with a few phrases that describe your Web site’s content in three or four words.

Keyword Research when Choosing a Domain Name

You want your domain name to be short and descriptive. That means that each word in it must have value.

Keyword research can identify powerful keywords for your Web site’s content but it can also find words to use in your domain name. There is one difference as will be discussed below.

Keyword research identifies the words and phrases that people are using when searching for information related to your planned Web site. You will use these keywords in your Web site’s content and in any payperclick PPC campaigns but you should also use them in your domain name. A keywordrich domain name is more likely to rank high in search engine results.

When researching keywords for use in your Web site content or in PPC advertising you want search terms that are frequently used but rarely matched. These are the highvalue keywords that can make the content of your Web site stand out in the search engines.

However when you are looking for keywords to use in your domain name you should concentrate on frequently used keywords and not necessarily those that are rarely matched. This is the difference alluded to earlier.

Keyword research can not tell you whether a domain name is available. It can only tell you what people are looking for and what they are finding in the content of Web pages. So identify terms that people are looking for then determine what domain names are available that use those terms and you will have a winning domain name.

Take the list of descriptive phrases you identified in the last section and use each one as the starting point for keyword research. From your keyword research build a list of phrases that people are searching for when they want to find the kind of content you plan to offer.

From that list focus on the shortest phrases that are relevant and clearly descriptive of the content you intend to offer. Now check to see which of these phrases are available for you to register as domain names.

What if you find two or more keywordrich domain names available? Register all of them! Choose the one you like best as the main name for your Web site but keep the others. You can use them as “redirect” pages and you always have the option of using the alternate names later.

For the same reason register your domain name in various toplevel domains if they are available such as .com .info etc. Lock in your options on those alternate names and lock out your competitors from stealing the results of your research.

Conclusion: What to Do Next

Before you rush out and register the first available domain name you come up with do your homework.

* Think of a short list of descriptive phrases about the Web site you intend to build.

* Do some comprehensive keyword research on each of those descriptive phrases and build a list of more keywordrich descriptive phrases.

* Choose the shortest most memorable phrases from your list and check which ones are available to register as domain names.

* Register as many of these keywordrich descriptive domain names as you can.

Free Web Hosting Tips

Can you really get FREE web hosting?
Yes there are hundreds of free hosts as far as not having to pay any money. Generally they either cost you in time hosting restrictions or modifying your web pages by adding popups or other adverts. When looking for free web hosting especially on search engines you should beware that there are also a large number of commercial web hosts that claim to offer free hosting but those have a catch such as paying an excessive amount for a domain name or other service and therefore aren’t really free.
How do the free web hosts make money?
The free hosts often make money in other ways such as putting banners popups or popunders on your site. Some free hosting companies do not put ads on your site but require you as the webmaster to click on banners in their control panel or signup process or just display banners in the file manager in hopes you will click them. Some lure visitors with free hosting in hopes you will upgrade and pay for advanced features. A few send you occasional emails with ads or may even sell your email address.
Are free web hosts reliable?
Generally no although there may be a few exceptions. If the host is making money from banner ads or other revenue sources directly from the free hosting then they likely will stay in business provided someone doesn’t abuse their hosting with spam hacking etc. as often happens to new free web hosting companies with liberal signup policies. If the host accepts just anyone especially with an automated instant activation and it offers features such as PHP or CGI then some users invariably try to find ways to abuse it which can cause the host to have a lot of downtime or the server to be slow. It is best if you choose a very selective free host which only accepts quality sites assuming you have one.
Uses for free webspace
Free web hosting is not recommended for businesses unless you can get domain hosting from an adfree host that is very selective such as DistantHost http://signup.distanthost.com/ or Fairmount http://www.fairmount.nu/. Other reasons for using free hosting would be to learn the basics of website hosting have a personal website with pictures of your family or whatever a doorway page to another website of yours or to try scripts you have written on different hosting environments.
How to find the right free web hosting
The best place to search for free webhosting is on a free webspace directory website i.e. a site which specializes in listing only free web hosting providers. There are some which add new free hosts pretty much every week and if it is updated often has usually had to delete about as many. There are also many which almost never update their site and a huge percent of their links and info are outdated. Unfortunately that includes most of the directories that were the best several years ago. The problem is free hosts change so often and most fold up in less than a year often even after only a day or two that it is hard to keep such a directory uptodate. The most recommended directory is Free Webspace http://www.freewebhosts.com/ which has a detailed list of over 900 free web hosting providers with user reviews ratings forums and searchable database. It is updated daily and the advanced free web hosting search has 42 options helping you to find the free hosting package with all the features you need such as CGI PHP MySQL ASP SSI and FrontPage extensions.
For a smaller more selective list of the best free hosts there is also:
100 Best Free Webspace http://www.100BestFreeWebspace.com/
Free Hosting http://www.AbsolutelyFreeHosting.com/
Free Webspace http://www.freewebspace.org/
Other usually less useful resources include subcategories of freebies sites search engines and directories and forums. Your ISP might also supply you with free webhosting.
Hints for finding the best free web hosting
Generally it is best not to choose a free hosting package with more features than you need and also check to see if the company somehow receives revenue from the free hosting itself to keep it in business. As already mentioned it is best to try to get accepted to a more selective free host if possible. Look at other sites hosted there to see what kind of ads are on your site and the server speed keep in mind newer hosts will be faster at first. Read the Terms of Service TOS and host features to make sure it has enough bandwidth for your site large webspace and file size limit and any scripting options you might need. Read free webspace reviews and ratings by other users on free hosting directories. If you don’t have your own domain name you might want to use a free URL forwarding service so you can change your site’s host if needed.
Recommended free web hosts
It would be awfully hard to recommend any host and someone not like it as different people need different hosting features and have different priorities and the hosting quality may change over time. Also some people want free domain hosting you own the domain and others might not be able to buy a domain. Here are some of the most recommended free web hosts and their main features.
DistantHost http://signup.distanthost.com/ offers subdomain or domain hosting 100 MB webspace no forced ads on your site FTP and/or browser upload CGI and Perl PHP MySQL database SSI and FrontPage Extensions as well as a collection of other preinstalled scripts. It has great support and a generous bandwidth limit of 6 GB/month. There is also CPanel 7 control panel with most if not all the options you would find on a paid host: webbased Email and forwarding statistics custom error pages SSL Cron and much more. What is the catch? You must click on a certain number of banners in the control panel monthly.
HostRave http://www.freehosting.hostrave.com/ gives you a URL such as http://freehosting.hostrave.com/b/ and offers 21 MB webspace POP3 and webbased Email PHP and SSI MySQL database guestbook and forum script and unmetered bandwidth. You can upload via a file manger or FTP import. Only English websites are accepted and there is a text link at the top of your pages. It has about the best support of any free host and in fact maybe better than any paid host. It’s two sister sites offer slightly different features:
Hph http://signup.hspages.com/cgibin/signup 50 MB.
HomepageHost http://www.homepagehost.uni.cc/index1.html 10 MB and no forced ads.
Yahoo Geocities http://geocities.yahoo.com/home/ is controversial. Many people hate the ads they put on your site or its other limitations but it is one of the oldest and most reliable free web hosts. Your URL looks like http://www.geocities.com/you . They give you 15 MB webspace file manager and editor webbased Email and statistics. The bandwidth limit is 3 GB/month and the file size limit is 5 MB. You can upload several file types such as RealAudio RealVideo Flash MP3 and Java but other scripting is not supported.

Get A Top 10 Ranking Without Paying A Cent

If there’s one thing that Google loves it’s content. Done right a content rich website is almost guaranteed to rank highly. But how to get that content? You can write it yourself but that takes a lot of time. You can pay an SEO copywriter to write it for you but that takes a lot of money. If only there was another option.

What if you could get your content for free? And not just a little bit of content a lot! What if you could get an almost unlimited supply of keyword rich expertly written content specific to your subject matter absolutely free of charge? Would you snap it up and upload to your site in an instant? Of course you would! Well here’s the good news: you can! Read on to find out how you can get a top ten ranking in the search engines without paying a single cent…

Yes content gives you a great ranking

Content is king. This is widely acknowledged as fact but if you need further convincing consider the following two points:

Point 1 In Google’s own words one of the keys to a high ranking is to ‘create a useful informationrich site’ from Google Information for Webmasters http://www.google.com/webmasters/guidelines.html.

Point 2 Google insider codenamed ‘Google Guy’ advocates a list 26 steps to building a high ranking site. Step 5 of the list says ‘build one page of content and put online per day at 200500 words” from Brett Tabke’s ’26 steps to 15k a Day’ http://www.searchengineworld.com/misc/guide.htm advocated by Google Guy in a WebMasterWorld QA session http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum30/29727610.htm.

But why does content give you a great ranking?

I won’t go into any further detail about IF Google loves content. I will however briefly explain WHY. Google’s love affair with content is based on two key attractions:

1 Google loves sites with a lot of content because it assumes they provide a lot of useful information. And remember that’s the whole reason Google exists to help people find useful information. The more helpful Google’s results the more traffic and revenue it gets.

2 Google loves sites that have a lot of links pointing to them because this means other webmasters hold your site in high regard and Google assumes this means the content is useful. And naturally if you create a useful site other webmasters will link to it because this makes them useful to their visitors thereby developing site loyalty and they gain credibility and authority because they’re associated with you.

So how can you get free content for your website?

Three words: ‘free reprint articles’. There are hundreds of thousands of people out there writing high quality helpful informative articles on virtually every topic imaginable then giving these article away to any webmaster who wants to publish them on a website. In exchange for the article the author asks only that you retain the author bio at the end complete with all links e.g. ‘Glenn Murray is an SEO Copywriter and Article Submission Specialist….

To find free content for your website simply visit any one of hundreds of ‘article banks’ on the Internet. Browse or search for the subject you’re interested in then take the articles for free. There is absolutely no charge. Some of these sites will even send a regular stream of articles direct to your website using RSS.

Alternatively you can sign up to any number of article distribution lists and get articles delivered direct to your email inbox. Again it’s absolutely free!

TIP: The article banks and distribution lists mentioned above are just the tip of the iceberg. There are hundreds more just do a search for ‘free reprint articles’ ‘article submission’ ‘article submission site’ ‘submit article’ ‘article submit site’ ‘free articles’ or ‘free content’. You may even find a site or list which only deals in articles relating to your particular subject matter.

Why is it free?
Why are these authors giving their articles away? Because it helps the author’s own search engine ranking. It’s a promotional activity known as ‘article PR’. As explained above Google loves sites with lots of links pointing to them. Every time their article submission is published the author gets another link to their website. In fact if the article is really good it may be published hundreds of times. And each time it’s another link to the author’s website. Put simply article submission is a writer’s free pass to the top of the search engines. In this sense the ‘PR’ in article PR stands for PageRank.

Furthermore like traditional public relations article PR also conveys a sense of authority because your articles are widely published. And because you’re proving your expertise and freely dispensing knowledge your readers will trust you and will be more likely to remain loyal to you. In this sense the “PR” in article PR stands for Public Relations.

How do I know if the quality is good?
It’s a process of natural selection. The better the article submission the more often it will be published so it’s in the author’s interest to write and submit articles of the highest quality. Of course this doesn’t always happen but in most cases you’ll be reviewing the articles before you post them anyway so if you discover one that’s not up to scratch don’t use it.

In time you’ll become familiar with the authors who consistently put out good quality content you may even find enough of them that you don’t need to go looking for content from anyone else…

Where do I put the free content?
Most people put the articles in an ‘Articles’ or ‘Resources’ section on their website but you can put them anywhere you like.

How much free content should I use?
As much as you want or as little as you want. It all depends on your needs and the needs of your audience. If your audience expects that at least some of your site is original content then give it to them.

But what about the duplicate content issue?
It’s not an issue!
There’s a lot of a talk about how Google penalizes duplicate content. The theory is that when the majority of the content on two separate webpages on different sites is the same the one with the higher PR will be shown and the other one will not.

Whether or not this theory is true is still a hot topic in search engine circles but regardless it doesn’t affect people publishing freereprint articles. When you publish the article just make sure you have unique content around it. Generally it’s enough to have your own unique introduction to the page which may be common to all pages and your own navigation elements headers footers sidebars logos images etc.

Conclusion
Free reprint articles are a great way for you to achieve a high ranking. And you don’t have to pay a cent! So what are you waiting for?

A Guide To Website Hosting

Defining web hosting:

Normally a web page consists of text and images with some files containing information in it known as content. The appearance of the web page is called design. Now in order to make such page accessible to online users one needs to store all these files on a web server. Thus in simple terms web servers as computers storing the files of tens or hundreds of web sites and these computers are all connected to the Internet through highspeed connection. Now when one access a web page his/her browser connects to the web server where the page is stored and from there downloads it to ones computer.

Thus when one plans to share his/her web site contents with online users via Internet web server is a must. In web hosting world there are abundant of web servers and the companies that own them. Such companies are known as webhosting provider.

A webhosting provider can have dozens of web servers hosting thousands of web sites. Usually the web server computers are found in large numbers and are all housed in special buildings or sections of buildings known as data center. Along with highspeed Internet connection these locations are set up to ensure the optimum operational conditions and security for the web servers. For security reasons they are equipped with all the necessary equipments like HVAC Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning control fire protection virus protection data backup facility power backup even autonomy in case of disaster. Another term used for web servers in the data center is web farm.

In order to run a site properly there is requirement of a space on the web server to store data as well as an Internet connection to it. The amount of data available on a web server is also known as space and is usually quantified in MB. In order to make a site accessible online one needs bandwidth and Internet connection and this bandwidth can be measured in MB or even GB. Now there are several webhosting providers offering different space and bandwidth and these space and bandwidth are usually the main characteristics of a webhosting plan.

The terms associated with web hosting are quite amazing like virtual web hosting dedicated hosting; colocating hosting shared hosting reseller hosting.

Shared Web Hosting

Shared web hosting also known as virtual web hosting means that on one web server there can host several web sites all having e a defined quota of HDD space and bandwidth. These all web sites run simultaneously and there number can be enormous ranging from hundreds to even thousands of web sites on the same web server. However the problem that is faced in case of shared web hosting is the high number of web sites affects the performance of the web server and server response server response means the time till visitors have to wait for a web pages to load. This problem can be avoided by selecting serious web hosting providers as the operational parameters of the web servers are monitored and appropriate actions are taken in order to maintain the level of service contracted. With the large number of web sites sharing the resources of a web server HDD space bandwidth memory CPU time the web hosting provider can charge less for its services but the biggest drawback is even with high level of service one will have to accept a slower server response time while selecting a shared web hosting.

Reseller Web Hosting

Reseller web hosting means when a webhosting providers offer their services with a discount to a thirdparty and thereafter when the third party subsequently offers webhosting services under his branding to another. When speaking technically the reseller web hosting is similar to shared web hosting as many web sites end up sharing space and bandwidth on the same web server. Usually the resellers are web designers or web developers offering webhosting services as part of their incorporated services. The webhosting providers offers attractive discounts to resellers thus the price they can offer is among the smallest in the industry. In comparison to the shared web hosting reseller hosting has problem of technical support. Also it is quite time consuming and communication problem can occur as the problem is conveyed to original provider via reseller and returns with a solution through same chain. Thus this system is not at all useful in case of commercial site. Now the question emerges how to distinguish between a reseller from a real webhosting provider? Its very difficult to distinguish between the two as its neither the professional design of the web site nor even the support contact facilities offered as many resellers might have contracts with the provider on the technical support and the person taking ones calls might be working for the provider and identify himself to user as an employee of the reseller. The only way to check is the solid company information which is made available usually only by the serious providers. Another hint is the low price which is as low as under 5/month. Thus one should consider carefully with prices dropping through the industry.

Dedicated Web Hosting

Dedicated web hosting is a hosting where one single web server is rented to a single customer only. However webhosting providers usually divide a single web server computer between up to three customers. On the other hand there are some webhosting providers that actually give an entire web server to a customer. The dedicated web hosting providers offer their clients option to host more than one web site even with three customers sharing the web server not only that even the option to configure the software as per ones need is also provided by these providers. For highly important web sites like ecommerce sites dedicated web hosting is considered best.

Colocation Web Hosting

It is quite similar with dedicated web hosting the main difference lies in the fact that in case of dedicated web hosting the web server computer belongs to the webhosting provider and is only rented by the customer however in case of colocating web hosting the customer owns the web server computer. In case of colocation the webhosting provider only houses the web server computer and sells bandwidth to the customer. This provides the customer using colocating web hosting full control of the web server combined with the security of the data center.

Thus now after knowing all the different types of hosting one can easily determine the appropriate host provider as per requirement with best support and other essential features.

Search Engine Keywords Selection

Search engines are the vehicles that drive potential customersto your websites. But in order for visitors to reach theirdestination your website you need to provide them withspecific and effective signs that will direct them right to yoursite. You do this by creating carefully chosen keywords.

Think of the right keywords as the Open Sesame! of the Internet.Find the exactly right words or phrases and presto! hoards oftraffic will be pulling up to your front door. But if yourkeywords are too general or too overused the possibility ofvisitors actually making it all the way to your site or ofseeing any real profits from the visitors that do arrivedecreases dramatically.

Your keywords serve as the foundation of your marketingstrategy. If they are not chosen with great precision no matterhow aggressive your marketing campaign may be the right peoplemay never get the chance to find out about it. So your firststep in plotting your strategy is to gather and evaluatekeywords and phrases.

You probably think you already know EXACTLY the right words foryour search phrases. Unfortunately if you haven’t followedcertain specific steps you are probably WRONG. It’s hard to beobjective when you are right in the center of your businessnetwork which is the reason that you may not be able to choosethe most efficient keywords from the inside. You need to be ableto think like your customers. And since you are a business ownerand not the consumer your best bet is to go directly to thesource.

Instead of plunging in and scribbling down a list of potentialsearch words and phrases yourself ask for words from as manypotential customers as you can. You will most likely find outthat your understanding of your business and your customers’understanding is significantly different.

The consumer is an invaluable resource. You will find the wordsyou accumulate from them are words and phrases you probablynever would have considered from deep inside the trenches ofyour business.

Only after you have gathered as many words and phrases fromoutside resources should you add your own keyword to the list.Once you have this list in hand you are ready for the nextstep: evaluation.

The aim of evaluation is to narrow down your list to a smallnumber of words and phrases that will direct the highest numberof quality visitors to your website. By “quality visitors” Imean those consumers who are most likely to make a purchaserather than just cruise around your site and take off forgreener pastures. In evaluating the effectiveness of keywordsbear in mind three elements: popularity specificity andmotivation.

Popularity is the easiest to evaluate because it is an objectivequality. The more popular your keyword is the more likely thechances are that it will be typed into a search engine whichwill then bring up your URL.

You can now purchase software that will rate the popularity ofkeywords and phrases by giving words a number rating based onreal search engine activity. Software such as WordTracker willeven suggest variations of your words and phrases. The higherthe number this software assigns to a given keyword the moretraffic you can logically expect to be directed to your site. The only fallacy with this concept is the more popular thekeyword is the greater the search engine position you will needto obtain. If you are down at the bottom of the search resultsthe consumer will probably never scroll down to find you.

Popularity isn’t enough to declare a keyword a good choice. Youmust move on to the next criteria which is specificity. Themore specific your keyword is the greater the likelihood thatthe consumer who is ready to purchase your goods or serviceswill find you.

Let’s look at a hypothetical example. Imagine that you haveobtained popularity rankings for the keyword “automobilecompanies.” However you company specializes in bodywork only. The keyword “automobile body shops” would rank lower on thepopularity scale than “automobile companies” but it wouldnevertheless serve you much better. Instead of getting a slew ofpeople interested in everything from buying a car to changingtheir oil filters you will get only those consumers withtrashed front ends or crumpled fenders being directed to yoursite. In other words consumers ready to buy your services arethe ones who will immediately find you. Not only that but thegreater the specificity of your keyword is the less competitionyou will face.

The third factor is consumer motivation. Once again thisrequires putting yourself inside the mind of the customer ratherthan the seller to figure out what motivation prompts a personlooking for a service or product to type in a particular word orphrase. Let’s look at another example such as a consumer who issearching for a job as an IT manager in a new city. If you haveto choose between “Seattle job listings” and “Seattle ITrecruiters” which do you think will benefit the consumer more?If you were looking for this type of specific job which keywordwould you type in? The second one of course! Using the secondkeyword targets people who have decided on their career havethe necessary experience and are ready to enlist you as theirrecruiter rather than someone just out of school who iscasually trying to figure out what to do with his or her life inbetween beer parties. You want to find people who are ready toact or make a purchase and this requires subtle tinkering ofyour keywords until your find the most specific and directlytargeted phrases to bring the most motivated traffic to you site.

Once you have chosen your keywords your work is not done. Youmust continually evaluate performance across a variety of searchengines bearing in mind that times and trends change as doespopular lingo. You cannot rely on your log traffic analysisalone because it will not tell you how many of your visitorsactually made a purchase.

Luckily some new tools have been invented to help you judge theeffectiveness of your keywords in individual search engines. There is now software available that analyzes consumer behaviorin relation to consumer traffic. This allows you to discernwhich keywords are bringing you the most valuable customers.

This is an essential concept: numbers alone do not make a goodkeyword; profits per visitor do. You need to find keywords thatdirect consumers to your site who actually buy your productfill out your forms or download your product. This is the mostimportant factor in evaluating the efficacy of a keyword orphrase and should be the sword you wield when discarding andreplacing ineffective or inefficient keywords with keywords thatbring in better profits.

Ongoing analysis of tested keywords is the formula for searchengine success. This may sound like a lot of work and it is!But the amount of informed effort you put into your keywordcampaign is what will ultimately generate your business’rewards

Search Engine Optimization: Building A Tourist Attraction

Lion shares of niche markets continue to be carved out. However the dotcom hype is long over and no longer can business models be content with merely having a Web site out on the internet to elicit continued success. Business providers have become increasingly savvy dishonest Search Engine Optimization practices have become increasingly shrewd and Search Engine technology has become exponentially more intelligent.

A Web site is essentially your online brochure pushing sales and information to the World. In this light they are tremendous tools which if built and tuned properly can:

* Free up staff time
* Free up valuable budget resources
* Generate increased revenue
* Generate larger market share
* Generate increased brand recognition
* Facilitate increased customer satisfaction

If you are a small business understaffed or lack the knowledge a reputable SEO/SEM consultant can set you on the path to selfreliance. Otherwise what these B2B opportunists offer is nothing that cannot be done internally by knowledgeable staff with the available time to implement necessary strategies. Once properly established maintaining one’s Search Engine Strategies SES should not average you more than 15 minutes a day. Below is an overview of some simple strategies you can immediately employ toward your Internet presence without a huge investment. Where you go from there is up to you.

Cleaning House
If you want to design the Sistine Chapel of Web sites you better have a solid foundation. That starts with clean simple code free of complexities. Search Engines shouldn’t have to struggle with your code structure. Present them with an easy topdown design filled with relevant link bait. I know it is easy to sometimes sacrifice quality for speedy edits or allow deprecated code to clutter its way into your Source but all this evolves into a Frankensteinian abomination of code making for an unfriendly host to Search Engine spiders.

What’s Under the Hood
While no one strategy can significantly increase your Search Engine Result Page SERP position the culmination of the strategies herein can certainly improve your chances. Let’s begin this category by discussing the domain name i.e. foo.com. It’s the most relevant and it’s within your control. While your business name is a logical choice consider choosing a one or two word industry buzzword for your domain name.

Review your page titles and META tags. While different Search Engines consider and ignore different things most still value these HTML staples. Many people just place the same tags on every page. Big mistake! You are essentially helping your multipage Web site appear more like a single Web page. Search Engines will already spider wellindexed Web sites. So target each page with a specific two/three word key phrase relevant to the respective page’s content. In turn you need to place relevant content on those pages with the key phrase and its supporting keywords logically mentioned a respectable amount of times. But be careful I said “logically.” Saturating your own content with a keyword/phrase will actually work against you. As stated earlier Search Engine technology has become exponentially more intelligent.

The Search Engine Sherpas
Search Engines spiders are not only looking for relevant content and an easy way to index it they are willing to take instruction on how to do so. Two road maps that spiders look for are a robots.txt file and XML sitemap. Wouldn’t it be nice for example to predetermine which pages may be indexed and which Search Engines may index them? You can. It’s called a robot.txt file. There is however a caveat This is not a way to control access. It can by all standards actually alert evildoers to sensitive areas of your site. View this feature as merely a “No entry” sign for Search Engines. Why list it then? Well we are talking about optimizing your pages for Search Engines and not security. If you want secure data I trust you will take advantage of serverside authentication to make it happen.

So you have an idea of how to use a sitemap but what is an XML sitemap? While a sitemap at the top of your page makes for convenient user interaction and speedy indexing the addition of an XML sitemap goes beyond the page layout of your Web site. It holds a set of instructions answering some of the Search Engine’s most pertinent questions: What pages have changed? When did they change? And lastly how often will they change in the future? But to add icing to the technological cake you get to categorize each page’s priority against the others on your Web site. When addressing content there is only one temptation a Search Engine spider likes more than relevant content and that’s dynamic content.

Content is King
You’ve made the packaging pretty and baited the Search Engines but they still don’t care about you. How sad. You’re a nice person and your site looks great! What’s the issue? It’s most assuredly your content. Search Engines want to spider relevant content and binge often on dynamic relevant content. Not only that they further weight your content by grading the relevancy and importance of who’s linking to you who’s linking to who’s linking to you and if you are linking back to these sources. Yes most Search Engines’ algorithms weigh you as more important if your relevant links are inbound only instead of reciprocal. Thankfully the benefits of monstrous link pages and Web rings became extinct long long ago burgeoning forth the need for intelligent design.

You Can Lead a Horse to Water but…
By no means is this overview complete nor is it a pointandshoot solution. It is a beginning step to your understanding of Search Engine Optimization. Web sites are an ongoing casestudy of log review revision experimentation and education of emerging Search Engine technologies. However the overall Return on Investment ROI is well worth it.

What? SEO is Dead?
I’ve heard a few industry people mention SEO is dead. I personally cannot see this point but there is certainly room to disagree in the world of Search Engine Optimization. I can see that SEO has taken a backseat to Search Engine Strategy SES and Search Engine Marketing SEM; however SEO’s importance is still vital! Your Web site is the starting and ending point for your Web marketing efforts. It is the foundation for the traffic your efforts intend to drive through your Web site. With a strong foundation highlighted by the points above your Sistine Chapel of Web sites is sure to consistently attract and serve visitors for years to come.
