Fonts
Incase you are learning on taking anything on the print then you might just remember that you would have been asked not to use Sans Serif but as far as the web designing is concerned there is wide usage of Sans Serif for text and Serif for the head lines. Sans Serif has been proven to be the most widely used font because the screen resolution is not as high as in print. But it is important to note that you do not use serif for text because the text can be seen as blurred although you can use it for the head lines.
The next aspect which you need to remember is limiting the number of multiple fonts which you are using. Try and restrict the different types of fonts you are using this will enable you to provide a professional look.
Further try and use the fonts which belong to the same families like try and use Verdana Geneva although they are very common but they are found on all browsers.
